Bausch + Lomb has introduced its new Bausch + Lomb Ultra One Day silicone hydrogel daily disposable contact lens in the UK and Ireland.

The new lenses feature kaliflilcon A, described by the company as a next-generation contact lens material. The new product also builds on the technology used in the Bausch + Lomb Ultra monthly lenses: Advanced MoistureSeal technology, which provides a wettable surface and breathability.

The new ComfortFeel Technology aims to release ingredients to promote comfort and eye health, such as moisturisers, osmoprotectants and electrolytes, to help protect, enrich and stabilise the tear film.

The company suggests the two technologies work together to ensure comfort for 16 hours of wear, and to support a stable and healthy ocular environment.

The lens design also aims to provide high breathability, low modulus, and UV blocking, as well as being easy to handle.

Bausch + Lomb designed the lens to fulfil the “unmet needs of contact lens wearers,” with results of a consumer symptoms survey of 318 silicone hydrogel daily disposable wearers finding that the wearers identified a “significant opportunity to help minimise unnecessary compromises in the contact lens wearing experience.”

The research has suggested that 82% of silicone hydrogel daily disposable contact lens wearers are interested in a contact lens that can help prevent or reduce dryness.

A further 74% reported having to “settle for less comfort” to be able to wear contact lenses through the day, while 74% blamed their own lifestyle for eye issues rather than their lenses.

Discussing the launch of the Bausch + Lomb Ultra One Day, Thomas J Appio, president of Bausch + Lomb International, said: “This breakthrough new silicone hydrogel daily disposable contact lens is a welcome addition to our already robust contact lens portfolio, and allows our eye care practitioners to take their patients and practices further.”

More information on the lens is available on the Bausch + Lomb website.
