NHS eye care service provider, SpaMedica, has opened its ninth facility offering cataract surgery, treatment for age-related macular degeneration and YAG capsulotomy.

The new site opened in Skelmersdale, West Lancashire earlier this month and coincides with the business’ 10th anniversary this year.

SpaMedica was founded by CEO Anil Pitalia in 2008 and is currently the second largest provider of cataract services in the UK, performing over 15,000 surgeries a year.

The lease of the new hospital was secured by HRC Law, a company SpaMedica has used to secure its last three sites, having supported its openings in Sheffield in October last year and Birmingham this May.

Commercial property partner at HRC Law, Helen Marsh, said: “SpaMedica’s reputation has been built on its delivery of outstanding patient care. This standard is underpinned by world-class facilities and, as the group grows, it’s absolutely fundamental that new hospitals provide the infrastructure to continue raising the bar. We are delighted to secure another premises to further the business on its journey.”

Speaking about the latest facility, Mr Pitalia added: “We are focused on delivering the highest standards of patient care and only work with partners who share our vision. It’s refreshing to work with a team who are equally committed to the highest standards of quality as ourselves and support us fully throughout every stage of the transaction.”
