The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has welcomed Clare Fynney as its new chief people officer.

Fynney joins RNIB from Macmillan Cancer Support, where she held the role of interim chief people officer.

Speaking about her appointment, Fynney said: “I’m thrilled to be joining RNIB as chief people officer. It’s a privilege to work for an organisation with such an important purpose, a strong heritage and an exciting future.

“I look forward to working with colleagues across RNIB to build on those strengths and create the conditions for everyone to do their best work, so that together we can make the greatest possible difference for blind and partially sighted people.”

Fynney has more than 30 years of experience working at executive and board level in not-for-profit and family-owned organisations and publicly licensed companies, including roles at William Jacksons Food Group, Jacksons Bakery, and Lloyds Banking Group.

Her expertise includes organisational development, workforce strategy, and cultural transformation.

RNIB chief executive officer, Simon Antrobus, said: “RNIB is at a crucial crossroad. Like many charities, we’re navigating an ever-changing socio-economic and political climate. To do this in a purpose-led manner, we need our people and culture to be at its strongest.”

Antrobus noted: “There are currently 2.3 million people in the UK living with sight loss, and by 2050 this number is predicted to reach four million.”

He added: “With Clare leading our people function, I’m confident the organisation will be well-placed to continue creating the most impact for blind and partially sighted people. We’re delighted she has joined our team.”
