A two-day fundraising event held by Fight for Sight and the Optical Suppliers Association (OSA) has raised £10,000 to support vital research into sight-threatening eye conditions.
The joint event, held on 22 and 23 July at The Warwickshire Hotel, brought Fight for Sight’s annual golf day together with the OSA’s summer members’ event.
Attendees met for two days of fundraising, networking, and industry collaboration. Sporting, business and networking activities took place across the event.
The OSA golf team were successful in the event’s annual golf tournament.
Speaking about the golf competition, Debbie White, chair of the Warwickshire Fight for Sight Committee, said: “It was such a fantastic day and incredibly heartwarming to see so many teams come together, especially those joining us through our merger with the OSA.
“Fight for Sight is a charity that is very close to my heart. Living with sight loss myself, I know how important research is in giving hope to future generations. Every conversation, every donation and every team taking part has helped raise awareness and vital funds that will make a real difference.”
She added: “I can’t thank everyone enough for their generosity and support.”
Alongside the golf tournament and other fundraising and business-led activities, OSA members attended the organisation’s summer members’ meeting, where they were provided with updates on several key industry initiatives.
This included plans for 100% Optical 2027, the work of the OSA Dry Eye Committee, and an update on UK and EU medical device regulation.
Chair of the OSA, James Conway, said: “Our first joint event with Fight for Sight exceeded expectations. It brought together suppliers from across the industry in a relaxed environment that encouraged networking, collaboration and the sharing of ideas, whilst supporting an incredibly important charity.
“The feedback from members has been overwhelmingly positive, and there was a real sense that this should become a regular fixture in the optical calendar.”
