The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has appointed five trustees to its board.

RNIB chair of trustees, Anna Tylor, highlighted that trustees play a “vital role” in decision making within the RNIB.

“These new appointments bring a wealth of experience across a wide variety of specialisms to the board. This will help ensure we have the expertise we need to thrive in the sector and to continue to drive forward with our mission to make our world a better place for blind and partially sighted people,” Tylor said.

Asthma + Lung UK director of external affairs, Andrew McCracken, was appointed as a member of the RNIB board.

McCracken, who has inherited macular degeneration, has close to two decades of experience in health sector communications and policymaking.

Finance expert, Graham Colbert, joins the RNIB board as treasurer. He has previously served as the chief financial officer for Genomics England, a non-executive director with the NHS and a trustee for several charities.

Barry Hoffman takes on the role of lead safeguarding trustee at the RNIB board and chair of the people, culture and safeguarding committee. Hoffman, who has lived experience of sight loss, recently retired from a career as an experienced FTSE chief people officer.

Motability Foundation chief executive officer, Nigel Fletcher, joins the RNIB as a member of the board. Fletcher has lived with a vision impairment since birth.

Chartered accountant, Zayna Ali, joins the RNIB as chair of the audit, risk and compliance committee. Ali began her career in financial regulation with the Bank of England, before moving into the private sector.

The appointments mean that by September 2026 RNIB will have 10 trustees – half of whom have sight loss.
