Optos appoints new CEO
Alexandre Montague has taken on the role with immediate effect
10 June 2026
Optos has appointed Alexandre Montague as its new chief executive officer effective immediately.
The company highlighted that Montague brings nearly 25 years of experience in global healthcare, ophthalmology and vision care leadership.
Montague most recently served as chief executive officer of Hoya Vision Care, where he led a global organisation of 20,000 employees and with operations across 35 subsidiaries worldwide.
Prior to his role at Hoya, Montague held senior leadership positions at Essilor and Zeiss, developing expertise across ophthalmic devices, optics, vision care, and medical technology.
On his appointment, Montague highlighted how Optos’ approach to innovation, clinical excellence, and improving patient outcomes “strongly resonates with me.”
“I look forward to building on the well-established Optos foundation, supporting our customers, empowering our talented teams, and expanding our impact,” he said.
Montague suggested that if the company has a purposeful focus in making “meaningful investments” for patients, clinicians, and society, “the results will follow.”
“If we act early enough, we can change outcomes for entire generations,” he said.
Optos emphasised its work over 30 years to ‘revolutionise’ retinal imaging, supporting the detection of disease earlier and improving clinical decision-making, pointing out that Montague has also championed innovation and long-term approaches to vision health, such as in myopia management and preventative care.
The company said these synergies “open a new exciting chapter” aimed at driving its mission of “saving sight and saving lives.”
