EssilorLuxottica and Meta have revealed plans to expand their artificial intelligence (AI) glasses range with new styles for prescription wearers.

The Ray-Ban Meta collection will include two optical-first styles: the Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics (Gen 2) and Scriber Optics (Gen 2).

The new frames feature a slimmer design, interchangeable nose pads, overextension hinges offering an additional 10 degrees of rotation, and adjustable temple tips that can be shaped to the wearer’s head.

A new dedicated action button will allow the wearer to active Meta AI with a single press for access to personalised shortcuts and to capture content.

EssilorLuxottica said both frames support a wide range of lens designs to make them accessible to more prescription wearers.

Francesco Milleri, chairman and CEO and Paul du Saillant, deputy CEO at EssilorLuxottica, commented: “We achieved the unimaginable with Meta, building an AI glasses category from the ground up, cultivating demand and desire and giving consumers a gateway to the future that fits seamlessly and beautifully on their faces.”

“Yet still, the real journey is in front of us. By pioneering AI glasses specially engineered for prescription wearers, adding Meta AI’s enhancements and expanding distribution, we are taking a significant leap forward, bringing the industry and millions of new consumers with us,” they added.

In addition to the new designs, the company is introducing new colourways for its Oakley Meta products and Oakley Meta Vanguard in Transitions lenses.

The company is also expanding Meta AI capabilities on its AI glasses including live translation in more languages, hands-free food logging, nutrition tracking to help better understand diet using a voice prompt or photo, and message summarisation to recap missed conversations.

Across the AI glasses, wearers can collaborate with Meta AI to record photos and videos, listen to music and podcasts, place calls, send messages, and translate conversations.

The glasses feature a 12MP camera and 3K video recording and a six-microphone system for immersive audio recording and reduced background noise for calls and voice interactions.

The Ray-Ban Meta collection, including Ray-Ban Meta Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics, will be available from 14 April in markets including the UK.
