Optometry Today (OT) is offering AOP members who work as locums a free, sponsored place at the Association’s Locum Clinical Skills Conference.

The one-day, face-to-face event takes place at the ABDO National Resource Centre on 12 March.

Held in partnership with Johnson & Johnson, delegates can earn up to 15 interactive CPD points while engaging in clinical content tailored to locum practitioners.

The programme covers myopia management, ethical and regulatory scenarios, hospital referrals, and contact lens topics including astigmatism and presbyopia. Through interactive clinical circuits, workshops and peer review sessions, attendees will cover all CPD core domains and network with fellow locum optometrists.

Dr Yasmin Whayeb will lead a workshop, Myopia management on the move – case studies for locum optometrists, exploring communication at the outset and during follow-up, monitoring progression, and decision-making across interventions. Dr Waheeda Illahi and Urvasee Patel will present Hospital Eye Service referrals – a simple guide for locum optometrists, using case studies to examine red flags, when same-day referral is essential, and when community monitoring or routine referral is appropriate.

The AOP’s head of clinical and regulation, Henry Leonard, will deliver Help! I’m a locum and…, focusing on common clinical, ethical and regulatory scenarios encountered by locum optometrists and how to manage them effectively.

AOP head of education and OT clinical editor, Dr Ian Beasley, told OT: “The Locum Clinical Skills Conference provides the perfect platform for like-minded practitioners to share ideas, consolidate knowledge on key topics, and stretch their thinking, in a supportive environment.”

Places can be booked via the AOP website.
