CooperVision to streamline its soft contact lens portfolio

The contact lens manufacturer has confirmed that it will reorganise its soft contact lens portfolio across the UK and Ireland over the next two years

Contact lens manufacturer CooperVision has announced it will be reorganising its soft contact lens portfolio in the UK and Ireland, transitioning largely to silicone hydrogel production.

The company explained that the change is designed to enable the company to both focus its efforts on offering its most “innovative optical designs and advanced material technologies,” while also supporting future innovation.

CooperVision confirmed that the transition will happen over a two-year period, and will involve phasing out some of its Biomedics and Proclear hydrogel lenses from 31 October 2027 onwards. Lenses impacted include: Biomedics 55 Evolution; Biomedics toric, Biomedics 1 day Extra toric, Proclear sphere​, Proclear multifocal toric, Proclear toric/XR toric​, Proclear multifocal​, Proclear XR multifocal​, and Proclear 1 day multifocal.

Commenting on the plans, director of portfolio brand marketing EMEA at CooperVision, Lara Drury, said: “We’re committed to continuously refreshing our portfolio and bringing innovative optical designs and advanced material technologies to market.

“While we’re making changes to our current offering, we’ll continue to offer the widest range of silicone hydrogel contact lenses – with over 250,000 correction options – ensuring strong support for both eye care practitioners and wearers.”

CooperVision confirmed that it is currently expanding its global manufacturing capabilities in order to meet demand for its silicone hydrogel portfolio, and is investing in advanced infrastructure, production systems and technical expertise.

CooperVision said is it committed to working with customers to “ensure a smooth transition,” through the changes and encouraged practices that have questions to speak with their CooperVision representative.
