More than 2000 practitioners attended Hakim Group’s annual retreat this year – the organisation’s largest gathering to date.

Held at the Telford International Centre on 29–30 November 2025, the two-day event brought together independent practice owners and teams from across the Hakim Group, alongside industry colleagues and brand partners representing 10 countries.

Centred on the theme Live Your Ikigai, the conference aimed to “inspire attendees by reconnecting with their purpose, passion, and impact as they prepared for the year ahead,” Hakim Group described.

Across the weekend, a diverse line-up of speakers from business, entertainment, sport and optometry took to the stage. Sir Lenny Henry CBE discussed the power of comedy and laughter, while business leader and Dragons’ Den investor Deborah Meaden shared insights on purpose-driven entrepreneurship. Longevity expert and National Geographic explorer Dan Buettner also featured, alongside former England rugby international Jonny Wilkinson.

Reflecting on his own journey with Ikigai, Wilkinson told delegates: “Everything you need is already within us, and all of those opportunities are chances to unlock it. Know that you are already enough, you are already awesome and worthy, and keep an eye out for the magic around you.”

The retreat also hosted its largest exhibition to date, giving delegates the opportunity to meet and network with suppliers.

Lorna Robinson, head of buying at Hakim Group, said: “Our supply partners play a vital role in the success of our independent practices, and this year’s exhibition was the biggest we’ve ever hosted. The retreat was about celebrating collaboration – bringing the industry together to share innovation, explore new opportunities and champion the achievements of the past year. It was a true showcase of what we can accomplish when we work as one team.”

A Gatsby-inspired awards evening on the Saturday celebrated the achievements of practices, individuals and suppliers.

Peel and Gudgin Opticians in Stowmarket was named Practice of the Year. Senior optometrist and director, Ghisli Dunn, said: “Winning Practice of the Year meant so much to our entire team. We have worked incredibly hard to elevate every part of the patient experience, and to receive this recognition among so many exceptional practices was truly humbling.”

Julian Davies Opticians received the award for Practice Group of the Year. Senior optometrist and practice director, Chris Tannorella, said: “Our teams across Wales give their all every day, and this award felt like a celebration of their dedication, passion and commitment to delivering exceptional care. Being recognised on such a big stage was a genuine honour.”

During the retreat, the Group also announced the launch of a charity cookbook created in partnership with Cracking Good Food. All proceeds will support the not-for-profit social enterprise’s work tackling fuel, food and kitchen-equipment poverty across Greater Manchester and beyond.

Reflecting on the weekend, CEO and founder, Imran Hakim, said: “The Annual Retreat is always the highlight of our year – a moment when we unite as one Hakim Group family. To welcome more than 2000 colleagues, partners and friends under one roof was incredibly special. The weekend was designed to challenge, energise and inspire every attendee so we can all take life and work to another level in 2026. Our growth has been driven by shared values and a deeply connected community, and this retreat truly embodied that spirit.”
