Optegra Eye Health Care has provided the MP for Brentford & Isleworth, Ruth Cadbury, and MP for York Outer, Luke Charters, with tours of Optegra facilities in their constituencies.

MPs Cadbury and Charters visited Optegra NHS cataract clinics in West London and York, respectively, speaking to staff about the importance of partnerships between independent sector providers and the NHS in order to meet the needs of local patients.

Optegra shared that since opening its West London facility in July last year, it has performed more than 2000 free NHS cataract procedures, whilst its York facility, which opened in September 2023, has performed over 5000 procedures.

The MPs were informed about how the clinics’ partnerships with the NHS ensure that eligible patients can receive treatment within weeks of referral, helping to ease pressure on local hospitals and deliver timely care.

The visits coincided with Optegra launching drop-free cataract surgery for all NHS patients.

During the visits, both MPs met members of Optegra’s clinical staff and patients currently undergoing treatment.

Cadbury said:“It’s clear from my visit today that there continues to be a great demand for cataract surgery in the area and I am pleased that Optegra is supporting the NHS and providing resource to help prevent waiting lists creeping up again.”

Charters added:“I’m grateful for the dedication and care of the entire team and the positive impact they continue to make for thousands across York. The investment that Optegra has made in York is clearly making a difference for NHS patients in the local area.”

Optegra’s commercial director, Adam Cockley, explained that Optegra is “eager to support the NHS and continue to be a dependable service, helping patients avoid unnecessary waits for treatment.”
