A Fight for Sight supporter who has raised almost half a million pounds over 30 years was given as surprise thank you on The One Show by golfer Sir Nick Faldo.

Debbie White, from Warwickshire, has Usher Syndrome and has been fundraising for the charity for 30 years.

She was awarded the One Big Thank You on national TV on Thursday, 9 October.

White, a keen golfer and head of the Warwickshire Fight for Sight Committee, was attending the Betfred British Masters, which was being hosted by Faldo.

She was sitting in the front row when she was invited to join Faldo on stage and presented with an engraved gold cup.

White was then shown video messages from her family, friends, the Fight for Sight team, and The One Show presenter, Roman Kemp.

Chief executive of Fight for Sight, Keith Valentine, said: “I wanted to say the biggest thank you that is possible to say for raising over £400,00 over the 30 years you’ve been working with us to save sight and change lives.

“It’s an incredible contribution – thank you so much.”

The Warwickshire Fight for Sight Committee hosts an annual fundraising golf day. Over three decades, White has also taken part in sky dives, zip wires, cycling challenges, gala dinners and night walks to raise money for the charity.

White is a member of England and Wales Blind Golf, and was previously a competitive golfer with a handicap of 11. She is hoping to play in the Scandinavian Blind Golf Open in 2026.

White said: “It was a massive day – meeting Nick Faldo and being presented with the golf club and seeing all the videos of all the lovely messages from everyone. It was just wonderful. Thank you so much Fight for Sight and The One Show, and to everyone involved.

“It was such a huge surprise, which was tough at the beginning as I like to know what’s going on. It meant so much to me and it will spur on my efforts to raise funds for vital eye research.”
