Optometrists encouraged to complete glaucoma care survey
Practitioners in Bath, North East Somerset, Wiltshire, Swindon, Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are eligible to complete a 10–15 minute online survey
06 October 2025
Optometrists are invited to contribute to research that has the potential to improve patient care and standardise patient pathways by completing a short online survey.
Practitioners in Bath, North East Somerset, Wiltshire, Swindon, Dorset, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight are eligible to complete the anonymous 10–15 minute questionnaire, which will be open until 15 December.
Specialist optometrist at Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, Ellen Fletcher, is completing the research as part of her Master’s in advanced clinical practice at the University of Plymouth.
“I chose advanced glaucoma specifically as a topic as I work mostly within the glaucoma service and I have seen firsthand the physical and emotional impact this disease can have on people,” she said.
The survey will cover topics such as the length of time registered, any further qualifications undertaken, the type of tests available in practice, the number of patients seen per day and an estimation of the proportion of patients referred with advanced glaucoma.
The survey also covers patient factors, such as awareness of glaucoma, accessibility of optometry practices by public transport, and referral pathways.
