Eight-year-old to raise funds for Sight Scotland
Aleks Crosby will line up alongside thousands of other walkers clad in Scottish national dress for the annual fundraising Kiltwalk in Edinburgh
09 September 2025
Aleks Crosby, eight, will walking 4.5 miles to raise funds for Sight Scotland at the annual fundraising Kiltwalk in Edinburgh on Sunday (14 September).
The Kiltwalk event is a series of walks, including the Mighty Stride, Big Stroll and Wee Wander, that raise funds for a diverse range of charities. In 2024, Kiltwalk raised more than £7 million for 1650 Scottish charities, including Sight Scotland.

Aleks will be joined on the Wee Wander by his two-year-old brother, Daniel, aunt, Naomi and his father, Kieran Crosby – who works as a rehabilitation and mobility officer with Sight Scotland.
“I am very proud of what my dad does – he helps people every day – and if I can do my wee bit to help too, then that makes me happy,” Aleks said.
The Wee Wander is the shortest distance of the Kiltwalk events at 4.5 miles, followed by the Big Stroll at 11 miles and the Mighty Stride which is 21 miles.
Kieran shared that Aleks has always been interested in his role at Sight Scotland.
“He asks about the technology we use, whether it is a talking microwave or a liquid level indicator that helps someone make a cup of tea safely, and he has always been incredibly supportive,” he said.
Kieran added that sight loss can take away a person’s confidence and leave them feeling lonely or isolated.
“It does not have to be like this. With the right support, people with visual impairment can achieve so much. They can live full and independent lives, rebuild their confidence, and take part in the things that matter most to them,” he emphasised.
Donations towards the fundraising walk for Sight Scotland can be made online.
