Research seeks views of optical professionals who care for children with CVI
The study will focus on the most appropriate treatment outcomes for children with severe to profound learning disabilities and cerebral visual impairment
25 July 2025
Optical professionals who have worked with children with severe to profound learning disabilities and cerebral visual impairment (CVI+) are invited to contribute to a study that will shape what outcomes are measured in future research.
The University of Liverpool study is looking to recruit professionals with experience of CVI in ophthalmic, paediatric and educational roles to take part in a focus group, online survey or online meeting.
Participants can choose which aspects of the study they take part in – with the option of taking part in all three.
An explanatory statement on the research highlighted that at present there is a lack of consistency in the outcomes used within CVI+ research.
“This means we cannot compare or combine their results,” the statement noted.
Through feedback and discussion, the study will look to establish a set of core outcomes that will be used in future CVI+ research.
Optical professionals will have the chance to share their views on what is most important to prioritise when measuring the effectiveness of treatments for CVI+.
Vouchers will be given to study participants to reimburse them for their time. Those interested in taking part can contact University of Liverpool doctoral researcher, Louise Allen, by email.
