EssilorLuxottica has announced the signing of an agreement to acquire one of the largest optical businesses in Malaysia.

The acquisition, which includes A-Look, Seen and OWL, includes 90 stores located across East and West Malaysia.

EssilorLuxottica said this latest acquisition is designed to complement its position in Malaysia, where it already has a wholesale and retail presence, including lens production.

Commenting on the development, EssilorLuxottica’s chairman and CEO, Francesco Milleri, and deputy CEO, Paul du Saillant, said: “Leveraging the integration of A-Look, Seen and OWL stores within EssilorLuxottica’s network will improve our understanding of the Malaysian market, allowing us to better contribute to growing awareness, demand and appreciation for high quality innovative vision care products, eyewear and eyecare solutions amongst Malaysian consumers.”

They added: “Consumers and customers are at the heart of our strategy as we focus on their needs to deliver and improve access to visual care solutions available to all.”

A-Look was established by Dato Terry Ngeow in 2003, with the first store opening in Kuala Lumpur.

The transaction is expected to close by the end of June, pending customary closing conditions.
