Navigating compliance, applying research with confidence, and the potential future effects of myopia management were topics for discussion at the annual MAYopia Day of education.
OT, in partnership with the AOP and CooperVision as headline sponsor, hosted five online webinars dedicated to the topic of myopia on 11 May.
The event attracted more than 1726 delegates across the five sessions.
The opening session of the day, Return of the myope – choose your own adventure, saw Katie Harrop, senior manager, global professional education for CooperVision, discuss the ways that eye care professionals need to react to changing circumstances to ensure that the correct intervention is worn in the most effective way.
The session also highlighted the value of selecting the right intervention for individuals, based on preferences, lifestyles, and life-stage, and the impact of adult myopia levels on career choices.
This was followed by a session, led by Amisha Pau, medical liaison lead UK & Ireland at EssilorLuxottica, on Myopia management – confidently applying research to practice.
The session considered how practitioners can make informed clinical decisions, and the importance of communication in myopia management treatments.
The third session of the day saw Sofia Fazal, professional services manager for Hoya Lens UK and Ireland, discuss: Navigating compliance and safeguarding in myopia care.
The session covered ensuring the practice meets compliance standards and key steps to protecting patients and professional reputation.
Dr Brooke Messer of Vance Thompson Vision, USA, led a webinar on Make your impact – embracing orthokeratology in your practice offering insight into the mechanisms through which ortho-k manages refractive error, fitting techniques, and strategies for integrating ortho-k into clinical practice.
Wrapping up the day, Dr Xu Cheng, clinical research fellow, research and development myopia lead at Johnson & Johnson Vision, was joined by Marie-Therese Hall, optometrist and professional affairs consultant at Johnson & Johnson Vision, to discuss Myopia matters – insights, interventions, and parental guidance.
The session looked at new innovations coming into market and effective communication with parents and guardians on the benefits of myopia control.
Sessions throughout the day were sponsored by CooperVision, EssilorLuxottica, Bausch + Lomb, Hoya, and Johnson & Johnson Vision.
A survey following the event found that 93% of delegates rate sessions overall as good or excellent, while 97% of delegates said the session met their objectives.
