The Scottish independent practice, Mackie Opticians, has joined Hakim Group.

Mackie Opticians was founded in 1995 by husband-and-wife team, Dr Scott Mackie and Dr Roisin Mackie (pictured).

The Glasgow-based business has two practices in both Bothwell and Lesmahagow.

Commenting on the decision to join Hakim Group, Dr Scott Mackie said: “Both Roisin and I have been in the optics world for 35 years. Throughout all the changes we have seen in the market, it has been the Hakim Group that has positively impacted the independent sector the most and in a relatively short period of time.”

He added that the values of Hakim Group resonate with their own, “thus joining the Hakim Group was, as they say in Glasgow, ‘A no brainer’.”

The pair are co-founders of the Scottish Optical Conference. Dr Roisin Mackie has worked in the optical industry for 35 years and Dr Scott Mackie lectures at UK and international meetings, and has run the CPD-accredited conference for 25 years.

Dr Scott Mackie was recognised in the NHS Scottish Health Awards in 2019 and the business has previously received a number of awards, including receiving the Optician of the Year patient-nominated award by the Macular Society.

Welcoming the practice, head of business development at Hakim Group, Luke Wren, said: “Mackie Opticians’ commitment to providing a bespoke personalised service to its customers over a 27-year history has not gone unnoticed and is testament to the hard work of their highly skilled team.”

“We look forward to helping ensure the next chapter in Mackie’s continued progress is even more successful,” he added.

The news marks a continued growth of Hakim Groups’ portfolio of independent practices in Scotland, after Urquhart Opticians and Cameron Optometry joined this year (in June and April respectively).
