Fight for Sight seeking teams for annual golf day

Fight for Sight is in planning mode for its annual golf day, which will take place at Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club in Coventry on Wednesday 6 July.

After a scaled down event in 2021, the charity hopes that the 27^th iteration of the day will be a success in terms of fundraising.

The day will involve 18 holes of golf, plus a three-course dinner, auction and tombola, for which Fight for Sight is hoping to source 100 prizes.

There are spaces for 30 teams of four to sign up to play, and this year’s loose theme for the day will be ‘Commonwealth Games’.

Prizes will be awarded for each hole, and Topcon will return as the event’s main sponsor.

Debbie White, the chair of the charity’s Warwickshire Committee, emphasised that, like many other charities, Fight for Sight has suffered during the pandemic.

She said: “Our annual golf day this year is even more important to us, as it signifies a tentative return to raising the much-needed funds required to help the charity as much as we can.

“Sadly, more and more people are losing their sight, as well as their independence and the opportunities that come with that.

“Sight loss doesn’t discriminate or care who you are or where you’re from; anyone can be affected.”

White went on to remind supporters that research holds the key to continued progress in the field of eye health – something that Fight for Sight is committed to improving.

"With the generous donations from our supporters, this vital research can continue,” White said. “Many people don’t realise the life-changing impact that research can have, but it holds the key to breakthroughs that could transform lives.”
