Austrian eyewear brand, Silhouette, has reimagined its statement sunglasses from the 1973 ‘Futura’ collection for a new 2022 model, the ‘Futura Dot’.

The frames are influenced by retro 70s styles and incorporate the oversized shape of the original model with a new futuristic twist in the form of a “dramatic dot” above the nose bridge.

Head of design at Silhouette, Roland Keplinger, explained: “The signature dot plays a central role in this design. The dot is milled and then accentuated by its hand-finished colour inlay.”

“The large lenses that are precisely embedded in the shield work beautifully with the dot to create a particularly modern look. The contours are coloured by hand to bring a graphic element to the design and strongly emphasise the shape of the lenses,” he added.

Four colourways are available: a monochrome ‘black and white’, ‘olive grove’, ‘nostalgic brown’ and an ‘Atlantic blue’.

There are only 1964 pairs of the limited-edition frames available, chosen to reflect the date the brand was founded.

The Futura Dot collection is available under the brand’s Light Management programme – designed to provide contrast enhancement, antiglare protection and a blue light filter.
