The Body Doctor, the manufacturer behind The Eye Doctor range, has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the innovation category for its Sterileyes patented antibacterial compresses.

This marks the second Queen’s Award won by the family-run business, which also received the award for innovation in 2016.

The Sterileyes solution is designed to reduce bacteria on the Eye Doctor compresses, used to treat dry eye disease, Meibomian Gland Dysfunction ad blepharitis. A patent was granted for Sterileyes in 2021, following five years of research and development.

Award judges recognised that “It has been an exceptionally hard few years for businesses,” and suggested the award is testament to the resilience “shown through these unprecedented times.”

Managing director for The Body Doctor, Sue Grant, commented: “We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition again. It is reflective of the hard work and dedication from the whole Body Doctor team to offer the very best products to our customers.”

Discussing the Sterileyes technology, Grant said the award “recognises our ability to identify a problem no-one thought existed and to solve it in a safe, cost-effective way.”

Grant described the achievement as “validation of what can be achieved by a company sticking to, and implementing, its key core values.”

A representative from the company will be attending the awards reception at Buckingham Palace, hosted by HRH The Prince of Wales, on 12 July.
