The Eye Doctor hot eye compress scoops award for innovation

The Body Doctor family – recipients of The Queen's Award

Medical device manufacturer, The Body Doctor, has won its first Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the innovation category for developing the Eye Doctor, a hot eye compress for the relief of various eye conditions including blepharitis and dry eye disease.

The Body Doctor is a family-run business, based in Huddersfield. Company founder Sue Grant first introduced wheat-filled medical devices into the UK in 1994 and has won many awards for her products.

Ms Grant said: “We feel very proud to receive a Queen’s Award in recognition of the dedication and hard work of the entire Body Doctor team.

“This award is internationally known, we have had success with the Eye Doctor as far away as the USA and Japan. This is great for our local community.”

Ms Grant and her two sons, Adam, operations director, and Sam, head of sales (pictured), established the Body Doctor in 2012 and launched its first product in 2013.
Last year was an important year for the company as it showcased the Eye Doctor to the optical profession at 100% Optical. TV presenter Dr Hilary Jones also contacted the company with positive feedback about its products. He suffered with blepharitis for many years and found the hot eye compress very effective.

Dr Jones attended this year’s 100% Optical (6–8 February, London ExCeL) to support the company and its products in person. He said: “The Eye Doctor is a simple and effective, reusable solution in treating a wide range of eye conditions.”

Winners of the Queen’s Awards are invited to attend a special reception at Buckingham Palace. They can also use the Queen’s Award emblem in advertising, marketing and on packaging for five years as a symbol of their quality and success.
