10 October 2024
A slit lamp image of an iris cyst in vitreous cavity has been named the winner of Haag-Streit’s annual global Slit Lamp Imaging Competition.
Utpal Sarkar, from Disha Eye Hospitals, India, was named the overall winner in the imaging category in recognition of his image (above). It was taken on the company’s BX slit lamp.
Marc Müller, from Saarland University Eye Clinic in Germany, was awarded second prize, recognising his image that shows conjunctival intraepithelial neoplasia with secondary vascularized pannus.
In third place was Seraina Tanno, from Lucerne Cantonal Hospital in Switzerland, who photographed an iris defect – aniridia lens.
The competition, which is now in its sixth year, received hundreds of submissions from a growing number of locations worldwide. Haag-Streit shared that it received entries from 23 countries, including the UK, US, UEA, China, South Korea, Brazil, and Australia.
The 2024 competition was judged by professional photographer, Marc Curchod, ophthalmologist Jesús Conejero, and Haag-Streit product managers, Frank Wenger and Jacqui Kenyon. All submissions were scored on image quality, technical execution, and disease interest.
Reflecting on the competition, Haag-Streit’s juror Frank Wenger, said: “On behalf of Haag-Streit, we are delighted to see the global community of ophthalmic imaging enthusiasts come together once again to demonstrate the artistic possibilities of the slit lamp. We thank all this year’s entrants for their efforts and extend our warm congratulations to our winners.”
You can view the three winning images on the Haag-Streit website, and also download high-resolution versions of the top 10 images from the company’s Wallpaper collection page.
