Christmas appeal sees celebrities donate frames to Sightsavers for auction

Sightsavers Christmas appeal

Up to 50 celebrities have donated a pair of spectacles to the international eye care charity Sightsavers, who will auction off the frames to raise funds as part of its 2016 Christmas specs appeal.

The frames will be auctioned on eBay from Friday (25 November) to 5 December, with all funds raised being used to support Sightsavers’ work providing sight tests and spectacles to those in need around the world. Celebrities who have made donations include Meryl Streep, Daniel Radcliffe, Liv Tyler, Ringo Starr, Will-i-am, Rita Ora and Kate Moss.

Pledging her support to the appeal, Sightsavers ambassador and actress Sunetra Sarker, who has donated a pair of glasses to the auction, said: “I’m supporting Sightsavers because if it can help just one person to see again, then it’s worth it."

Eyewear brands including Marchon and Kirk Originals have also donated a selection of sunglasses to the auction, providing bidders with the opportunity to purchase a pair of brand-new designer sunglasses.
