After passing the College of Optometrists professional qualifying examination in 2009 Grant practiced as an optometrist in North West England and then South Wales. He is currently a senior lecturer at Cardiff University School of Optometry and Vision Sciences. His responsibilities involve leading an on-site, patient-facing glaucoma clinic and teaching across the School's MOptom/MSc Optometry portfolios
