Webinar 1: Medical retina essentials for locum optometrists
This session will outline key areas in the detection and management of common medical retina conditions. It will consider OCT interpretation, clinical signs and symptoms, differential diagnosis, further investigations, referral and management options.
Learning outcomes
Practitioners will recognise the key clinical signs and OCT features of common medical retina conditions to support patient management (s.5, s.7)
Practitioners will be able to apply a safe, patient-centred approach to the management of common medical retina conditions by recognising when referral or collaborative care is required (s.10, s.11).

Jeenal Shah
Jeenal qualified as an optometrist in 2000 and initially worked in both independent and multiple practices, alongside locum work in primary care. He then spent several years as a lead optometrist within the refractive surgery sector, managing patients undergoing laser eye surgery and intraocular lens procedures.
Jeenal qualified as an optometrist in 2000 and initially worked in both independent and multiple practices, alongside locum work in primary care. He then spent several years as a lead optometrist within the refractive surgery sector, managing patients undergoing laser eye surgery and intraocular lens procedures. He subsequently worked for more than 10 years at Bristol Eye Hospital as a shared care optometrist alongside a role at Newmedica Bristol as head of clinical services. He currently works primarily within the medical retina service at Bristol Eye Hospital and is also a specialist module leader and senior lecturer at Cardiff University, where he teaches optometrists studying for the College of Optometrists' higher certificate in medical retina.
