Webinar: Elevating contact lens upgrades through effective communication

Contact lens dissatisfaction often goes unspoken, leading patients to reduce wear time or quietly discontinue contact lens use altogether. This interactive webinar explores how eye care professionals can elevate contact lens upgrades through effective communication, ensuring patients are supported to make informed choices that meet their evolving visual and lifestyle needs. Attendees will review the drivers of physical and visual comfort, the impact of modern lifestyles such as increased screen use, and why patients may not always disclose discomfort. Practical communication techniques will be shared, including open and probing questioning, active listening, and using patient friendly language to confidently discuss new technologies and upgrade options without appearing pushy. Delegates will gain strategies to improve patient engagement, satisfaction, and long-term contact lens retention.

Learning outcomes

  • Practitioners will recognise the importance of a full understanding of patient lifestyle needs and visual requirements to provide personalised recommendations
  • Practitioners will identify patient-centred communication techniques, including open, probing questions and active listening, to uncover unreported visual and physical contact lens discomfort
  • Practitioners will evaluate when a contact lens upgrade may be clinically appropriate, even in patients who report satisfaction with their current lenses
  • Practitioners will recognise clinical and lifestyle factors that may contribute to suboptimal contact lens performance, including digital device use, tear film changes and evolving visual demands, relative to their scope of practice.
