Optometry Today (OT), in partnership with SightGlass Vision and the AOP, are pleased to provide this webinar.
The session will explore the emerging role of retinal contrast signalling in myopia development and how contrast modulation is being applied in spectacle lenses to slow myopia progression. It will review the science underpinning contrast-based interventions, examine the latest clinical evidence and discuss how contrast management compares with other optical approaches.
The session will also provide practical guidance on introducing contrast management spectacle lenses into clinical practice, including communicating with parents, managing expectations and sharing real-world experiences to support successful myopia management.
Learning outcomes
Practitioners will be able to explain the principles, expected benefits and adaptation to contrast management spectacle lenses to parents and children, enabling informed, patient-centred decisions about myopia management (s.1, s.2)
Practitioners will identify the evidence supporting contrast modulation as a myopia management strategy and apply this knowledge when selecting appropriate spectacle lens interventions for children with progressive myopia (s.5, s.7).

Professor James Wolffsohn
James is a professor of optometry at Aston University, a previous head of optometry, audiology and biomedical engineering schools, deputy dean of the College of Health and Life Sciences and a deputy pro-vice chancellor.
His main research areas are the development and evaluation of ophthalmic instrumentation, myopia management, contact lenses, intraocular lenses, presbyopia and the tear film. He is a national teaching fellow, has published more than 390 full peer-reviewed papers and presented at numerous international conferences. He is the chief scientific officer of the International Myopia Institute (IMI) and is a past director of the Tear Film and Ocular Surface society (TFOS), and president (2005-6) and academic chair (2014-25) of the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA).
David Webley
Dave qualified as an optometrist in 2003 and has worked in primary care practice, academia, learning and development, and industry. He has lectured internationally and delivered education to undergraduate and postgraduate optometric audiences.
He is currently senior director of clinical, medical and professional affairs for SightGlass Vision where he leads the strategic gathering, assessment and dissemination of clinical science on Diffusion Optics Technology spectacle lenses for myopia control.
