Session 6:Make your impact – embracing orthokeratology in practice

This CPD session will explore the growing global prevalence of myopia and provide practitioners with a clear understanding of the mechanisms behind orthokeratology (ortho-k) in the management of refractive error and myopia progression. The presentation will dive into the practical stages of fitting ortho-k lenses and evaluation of the various fitting approaches available, with particular emphasis on modern software-based techniques.

Building on these clinical foundations, the session will also examine practical strategies for successfully integrating ortho-k into everyday practice workflows. By the end of the lecture, practitioners will have developed greater confidence in fitting and managing ortho-k patients and will appreciate how, with the right systems and tools in place, ortho-k can become an efficient and rewarding part of clinical practice.

Learning outcomes

  • Practitioners will be able to communicate effectively with patients and parents about myopia progression and the role of orthokeratology in its management (s.2)
  • Practitioners will identify evidence-based ortho-k fitting and evaluation techniques, including software-assisted methods, to safely and effectively integrate orthokeratology into clinical practice (s.7).
