Newmedica invests £3m in new facility
The company has opened a new clinic in Welwyn Garden City
03 June 2025
Newmedica has invested £3m in the opening of a new centre based in Welwyn Garden City, which it says aims to support local healthcare infrastructure and reduce wait times for patients who require eye surgery.
The eye clinic and surgical centre, which is located at Shire Park, will provide NHS and private treatment in areas including cataract surgery, glaucoma procedures, YAG laser, and medical retina services. The clinic will also provide oculoplastic surgery, as well as wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and general ophthalmology treatments to private patients.
Operations director at Newmedica Welwyn Garden City, Huma Stone, said: “We are committed to ensuring patients receive the highest standard of care with minimal wait times. Our new surgical centre will make a real difference to people in the community, giving them access to life-changing treatments more quickly and efficiently.”
Stone co-owns the facility alongside consultant ophthalmologists James Bacon, Fariha Shafi and Michael Toma.
Newmedica confirmed that alongside the clinic’s 12 new staff members, it plans to recruit further as patient demand grows. It is also exploring opportunities to provide apprenticeships and training placements for future healthcare professionals.
