GOC survey to explore optometrist, dispensing optician and student experiences
The optical regulator is encouraging registrants to complete the 2025 Workforce and Perceptions Survey by 27 April
27 March 2025
The General Optical Council (GOC) is encouraging optometrists, dispensing opticians and optical students to share their perspectives through the 2025 Workforce and Perceptions Survey.
This year’s survey will explore a range of issues within the optical workforce, including job satisfaction, working conditions, and registrant views of the GOC.
New questions this year will seek feedback on registration fees, testing times and commercial pressures.
Last year, 4575 optometrists, dispensing opticians and optical students completed the survey. The results informed changes to the GOC Standards to provide more employer support for those experiencing bullying, harassment and discrimination.
GOC director of regulatory strategy, Steve Brooker, shared: “Each year, we learn more about registrants’ experiences which help inform our work. Last year’s findings revealed a link between registrants experiencing bullying, harassment, discrimination, and abuse and their ability to deliver safe patient care.”
The survey is run independently by Enventure Research to ensure all responses remain confidential.
It takes around 10 minutes to complete, with those who complete the survey given the opportunity to enter a prize draw for a £250 gift card.
The survey, which closes on 27 April, can be completed by following this link.
