Asda Opticians has joined the representative body, Optometry Scotland (OS), as a corporate member, adding 17 branches to the portfolio of the representative body.

This latest addition increased OS' current membership to more than 380 practices across Scotland.

The membership body’s council and board work on behalf of members, lobbying for enhanced services for the optometric and dispensing professions and more increased funding to preserve the general ophthalmic services contract.

Eilidh Thomson, chair of OS, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Asda Opticians on board as members of OS. Their extensive reach and commitment to accessible, high quality eye care make them a valuable addition to our growing network.”

“This partnership reflects the increasing importance of OS in bringing together all voices within the sector to ensure the continued development and delivery of outstanding optical services for the people of Scotland,” she said.

Stuart Laird, optometry compliance manager and clinical lead optometrist for Asda Opticians, said he was pleased to confirm that Asda has joined OS as a corporate member.

He said: “Optometry Scotland has a long history of being fantastic ambassadors for the eye care sector in Scotland, representing its members in a fair, balanced and meaningful way. The opportunity for Asda to join the organisation and contribute to this valuable and impactful work is one I was delighted to accept and we can’t wait to get started.”
