Medical technology company, Aston Vision Sciences, has received a health tech innovator of the year award.

The company was given the accolade at the Innovation Awards 2024, organised by The Technology Supply Chain membership body in engineering and technology.

The awards recognise and celebrate businesses, organisations and individuals dedicated to innovation.

Karl Obszanski, founder of Aston Vision Sciences, told OT that the award nomination came as a surprise to the team.

A panel of judges assess the nominations and produce a shortlist which is then put to a public vote, leading to a collection of five finalists in each category.

Obszanski said: “We attended the evening and saw that one of the other finalists had received second place so didn’t expect we would have won. Then our name flashed up on the big screen – it was completely unexpected.”

“I was a bit overwhelmed,” he admitted.

“This is the first award we have won,” he added, continuing: “It is really nice that we’re starting to become recognised and that our work is being taken seriously.”

He added that, as a small company, it can be difficult to “get noticed,” adding that receiving the award has been “fabulous.”
