New vice chair and independent representatives named for Optometry Scotland

Optometry Scotland (OS) has appointed a new vice chair and four independent representatives.

This follows the news that Julie Mosgrove has taken on the chair position of the non-profit organisation.

Eilidh Thomson, an optometrist for Black and Lizars, has stepped into the role of vice chair. She has served as a representative for the practice group since 2019.

Discussing the organisation, Thomson shared: “OS really goes above and beyond to help its members and has always been a great source of support for me.”

“I have been a member of OS since I qualified as an optometrist in 2014 and have always been a passionate supporter of the organisation, therefore I am delighted to take on an even more active role in helping it effectively represent Scotland’s world-class optometry services,” she added.

Four representatives have also been elected as a voice for independent optometrists in Scotland.

Arthur McHugh, of Hughes and McHugh Optometrists, joins the independent representatives. The business has practices in Airdrie, Lanark, Baillieston and Uddingston.

Colette Dunsmore, of Localeyes in Larkhall, Ian Jarvis of Jarvis Optometrist in Dundee, and Richard Spruce, part-owner of McFarlane and Nicol’s Ltd, all return for a second term.

Commenting on the new appointments, Mosgrove said: “We are proud to welcome Eilidh as our new vice chair. She has been an active member of OS’s council for several years and brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm.”

“With a considerable number of independent members across Scotland it is also important that they have a voice through our independent reps and we are proud to confirm our representatives for the coming term,” she added.
