M&S Opticians to close all practices “immediately”

M&S Opticians will close its six optical practices after failing to reach an agreement with its partner Galaxy Optical for a national rollout.

The practices, including the Colney store in London which opened on 14 March, will close immediately.

A spokesperson from Galaxy Optical told OT: “Following the phase one rollout of M&S Opticians, we have unfortunately been unable to reach an agreement with Marks & Spencer (M&S) for a national store rollout that is commercially viable for Galaxy Optical, resulting in the immediate closure of the six branches. All existing orders will be fulfilled – this has been communicated to all of our customers. We are working with all parties involved to ensure a successful conclusion.”

A spokesperson for M&S added: “The trial M&S Opticians with Galaxy Optical in six stores has now closed but we remain committed to reshaping our space and services through concessions. We have a dedicated customer care team and will be supporting each customer on a case by case basis.”
