Luxottica acquires Barberini for €140m

The eyewear company expects to complete the transaction in the third quarter of 2018

Luxottica Barberini

Luxottica has acquired sun lens manufacturer Barberini for €140m (£124m) in a move that the eyewear company said consolidates its focus on high-quality production.

The group explained that the transaction will allow Luxottica to create development opportunities and strengthen its knowledge in the sun and prescription lenses market.

Executive chairman of Luxottica, Leonardo Del Vecchio, said: “With the acquisition of Barberini we add another gem to our brands, a name that is well known throughout the industry and synonymous with top quality, innovation and ‘made in Italy’.”

Barberini was founded by Pietro Barberini in 1963 and now has annual net sales of €85m (£75m). The company controls its entire manufacturing line, including industrial sites in Italy and a plant in Germany for glass melting.

The acquisition is expected to be finalised by the third quarter of 2018.
