The International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) has published its Activity Summary 2017, which reports that its members reached 19,600 students at 560 academic institutions worldwide.

IACLE’s summary provides details of resources and events that it added throughout the year to improve the quality of contact lens teaching.

A new monthly research update was introduced in January last year, while new events included the IACLE Congress on Contact Lens Education, which was held in Hyderabad, India in September (pictured).

The association increased its membership from 731 in December 2016 to 782 in December 2017, with 47% from its global priority countries, including China, India and Mexico.

IACLE’s worldwide contact lens programmes were supported by companies such as Johnson & Johnson Vision, CooperVision and Bausch + Lomb.

A total of 154 candidates sat the 2017 fellowship exam, with 84 being successful. As of February 2018, there were 328 active fellows of IACLE worldwide.
