Optometry Tomorrow programme announced
The event will be held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole in March
28 November 2017
The College of Optometrists has announced the programme for its annual two-day conference, Optometry Tomorrow, which takes place from 18–19 March 2018.
Eye surgeon and CEO of Peek Vision, Dr Andrew Bastawrous, will deliver the keynote speech at the event. The 2014 TED fellow’s speech is titled, Using public health principles, smartphone technology and innovative financing to radically increase access to eye care.
Speaking about his address, Dr Bastawrous, said: “As an ophthalmologist, I’ve witnessed unhelpful divides between the ophthalmic and optometric community, in many places these divides lead to people not having access to life changing services.
“I know how important the role of the optometry sector is and that together we can provide much needed access to millions who don’t have it.”

The conference will take place at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel and will offer lectures, seminars and peer discussion opportunities.
Other speakers include Kam Balaggan, who will present on VMT macular holes, and Dr Nicola Logan, who will lecture on myopia control.
