Actor backs charity work

Actor Ben Miles, patron of Vision Care for Homeless People (VCHP) has spoken out in support of the charity's work.

Established 12 years ago, VCHP was set up to provide free sight tests and spectacles to homeless people. It has grown to six clinics across the UK – three in London, as well as one in Brighton, Birmingham and Manchester.

Reflecting on the benefits of the charity, Mr Miles said: "For many years now, VCHP has been quietly, constantly providing life-changing experience for countless people who would otherwise have no opportunity to improve their sight. Sight is arguably the most empowering of all senses, particularly for those in perilous circumstances such as homelessness, danger and isolation."

He added: "One of the many impressive things I have noticed about VCHP is its dynamism and logical excellence. Its ability to work together as a team and in tandem with volunteers and the many optical companies who donate so much is superb."

To date, VCHP has performed more than 3000 sight tests, providing many with much-needed prescription spectacles.
