OCT Day

Optometry Today (OT) in partnership with the AOP are pleased to host a day of OCT-themed education.

Featuring four interactive online webinars, each accredited with a CPD point and covering all core CPD domains, the event is designed to enhance optometrists’ confidence in interpreting OCT findings, recognising key ocular pathologies, and applying this knowledge in everyday practice. Delegates can join the full programme or select sessions that align with their clinical interests.

  • 12 October 2025

This session will discuss macular neovascularisation (MNV) and the different causes, many of which can mimic wet AMD. With OCT and OCT angiography (OCT-A) increasingly available in primary eye care, optometrists play a key role in early detection, diagnosis, and shared-care management. We will review the different types of MNV and explore how multimodal imaging can help differentiate true wet AMD from its mimickers.

This lecture explores the clinical features and impact of geographic atrophy (GA) in age-related macular degeneration, with a focus on OCT and multimodal imaging in diagnosis and monitoring. It will cover GA classification, progression, and risk factors, alongside practical tips for interpreting scans. The session also highlights emerging treatments, real-world insights from the AGAIN and MOSAIC studies, and how optometrists can prepare for changes in the clinical management of GA.

This session explores real closed legal cases where OCT imaging played a central role in clinical decision-making - or in missed opportunities. Delivered by the AOP’s legal and regulatory team, this presentation will highlight how OCT can protect or expose clinicians in legal proceedings, and what practitioners can learn to improve documentation, communication, and patient care. A must-attend for anyone using OCT in routine practice.

This lecture explores the use of OCT in detecting and managing a range of common and vision-threatening retinal vascular conditions including retinal vein and artery occlusions, macular telangiectasia and sickle cell maculopathy. Attendees will learn how to recognise key structural changes on OCT, understand the underlying pathophysiology, and appreciate when urgent referral or co-management is required. The session is designed to improve confidence in identifying retinal pathology beyond diabetic retinopathy and AMD in optometric practice.
