Cutler and Gross launches its crystal collection in Munich that showcases the inner construction of the new styles

British luxury eyewear brand Cutler and Gross launched its new crystal frame collection at the Opti trade show in Munich (28–30 January).

The crystal capsule collection re-imagines a handpicked selection of the historic brand’s most popular frames, creating ‘a juxtaposition of modern construction and time-honoured style,’ according to the company.

Clear Italian crystal acetate showcases the inner workings and construction of the frames, giving a contemporary take on classic shapes.

The four-piece capsule collection features two sunglasses – the timeless sunglasses ‘0734’ and the modern squared aviator frame ‘1228.’ There are also two ophthalmic styles, the quintessential oval frame ‘1026’ and the classic rectangular frame ‘1214.’

Cutler and Gross sales director, Jack Dooley, told OT: “I think this capsule collection represents a starting point in a new direction for the brand – we have taken traditional shapes from our collection and interpreted them in crystal.

“The construction allows people to see the technical elements of the frame, coupling this with new lens technology, creates nice segue between the brand’s history and its future path.”

The company’s ophthalmic frames and sunglasses have been worn by some of the most recognisable faces of the last four decades. Cutler and Gross fans include the artist David Hockney, as well as singers Sir Elton John, Madonna, Rihanna and Alicia Keys plus model Kate Moss and designer Manolo Blahnik.
