Frames: Back to the ‘50s
Serengeti has embraced the styles of the ‘50s with the ‘Lela’ and ‘Alray’ styles offering “charisma and style.” ‘Lela’ brings a modernised twist on ‘50s glamour with rounder lines, premium materials and refined finishes and is available in four colours, including a nude-rose shade. The male-style, ‘Alray’, features a mix of acetate and metal with an engraved pattern on the bridge and metal inserts on each side of the lenses.
Sunglasses: Girl power
Linda Farrow celebrates 50 years of eyewear design this year and to mark the occasion the brand has teamed up with women’s charity Smart Works, releasing a capsule collection consisting of 30 classic Linda Farrow styles. The Linda Farrow x Smart Works collection will help to raise funds for the charity and the brand will also donate pairs of optical frames to Smart Works.
Lens: Anti-reflective coatings
Essilor Ltd has extended its anti-reflective coating, Crizal Drive, across a wider range of designs. Previously, the coating has been exclusive to its RoadPilot driving lens. The coating delivers up to 90% less reflections when driving at night. The company suggests that by minimising the level of reflections, the coating helps to decrease the sensation of glare for the wearer.
Sunglasses: Production cycles
Continuing to aim for its sustainable goals, Swedish brand Monokel Eyewear has introduced the Recycled Black Collection to its range of sunglasses. Every black frame is made from recycled acetate bits collected from the brand’s own production. The Recycled Black collection currently represents more than half of Monokel Eyewears’ total production volume.
Frames: Infinity and beyond
Austrian eyewear brand, Silhouette, has launched a collection designed to complement workwear and business style. The Infinity View range introduces four new shapes; two for women, one unisex and one model for men. Designed to create a sophisticated and timeless look, the ultralight frames offer an assortment of transparent colours.
OCT: Identifying pathologies
Haag-Streit UK has launched the SOLIX FullRange OCT in the UK. The system features ultra-high-speed scanning for a FullRange field of view that is wide and deep, but does not sacrifice image clarity and resolution. The solution offers a range of clinical applications and the FullRange anterior segment imaging provides views of the entire anterior chamber in a single scan.
Drops: Dry eye relief
Grafton Optical has introduced I-Drop MGD Viscoadaptive Tears by I-MED Pharma to its range. The preservative-free tear aims to relieve symptoms associated with evaporative dry eye for patients suffering from meibomian gland dysfunction. The formulation contains 0.20% viscoadaptive hyaluronan, as well as osmoprotectants and bioprotectants that stabilise and enhance the lipid layer, while reducing evaporation of the tear film.
