Essilor and Luxottica have been named by American business magazine Forbes on its 100 Most Innovative Companies list for 2018.

The French lens company jumped from 68th on the 2017 list to 52nd in 2018, with 12 month sales growth of 7.34%. Luxottica placed 61st on the list, with 2.77% 12 month sales growth.

President and chief operating officer of Essilor, Laurent Vacheront, explained that innovation has always been a cornerstone of the company’s mission and strategy.

“We have evolved our innovation processes to reflect the world today – networked, collaborative, and creative – in order to meet the changing lifestyles of existing eyeglass wearers and respond to the vast, unmet vision needs of 2.5 billion people living with uncorrected poor vision,” he said.

Essilor launched the Varilux X series of progressive lenses in 2017 and has recently announced the Transitions Optical partnership with Johnson & Johnson Vision that will deliver the first photochromic contact lens in 2019.
