Tell your MP it's time to end the eye care crisis

Share our briefing with politicians and decision-makers, so they understand why action is needed

An elderly gentleman - Cut the patient backlog - Community optometry is ready to end the eye care crisis

No one should have to wait so long for an appointment it risks preventable sight loss.

We believe changing the way eye care is delivered in the UK will take the burden off hospital eye departments and GPs so every patient receives high quality care, quickly.

Whether you’re one of the thousands of people who has experienced a delay to diagnosis, to treatment or have a family member or friend who has, you will know the true cost of having to wait.

You may be a clinician who has seen the harm that a growing backlog is doing to your patients health.

However you are affected, it’s essential that your voice gets heard. You can take action now by writing to your local MP using our template letter or one of our briefings.

MPs can only act on behalf of their own constituents and it is really important that you tailor your letter as much as possible. Therefore, only write to your own MP and include your full address. If you are a patient or writing on behalf of a patient include details of your experience. If you are an optometrist include details about your practice, the services you provide and your expertise.

You can find out who your MP is by entering your postcode.

We have provided an example template letter to help you write to your MP. This template is tailored to England only – if you would like to raise this issue with your MP in Northern Ireland, Scotland or Wales please contact us: [email protected]
