A bite of the action

As the optical sector prepares to take a bigger role in primary care, Gareth Hadley highlights the rewards of joining the GOC’s Council

At the General Optical Council (GOC), we are always looking for optometrists and dispensing opticians who can bring a fresh perspective to the work we do and help shape the future of the optical sector. If this sounds like something you feel you could offer, then joining our council may be the right opportunity for you.

I was on the GOC from 2000 to 2013 and saw a huge amount of change take place, new FTP, new PQE, the advance into therapeutics. Its rewarding and worthwhile and you will develop a much wider perspective. Its also vital that the GOC is informed by optometrists and DO's who are fully embracing a clinical role yes who also have an understanding of how business and the educational sector works. You'll join at a tremendously exciting time. Go for it.
