The Children’s eye health, A guide for every family supplement, which was distributed to AOP members in the September edition of OT, is now available for members to order.

The 20-page guide, which was produced in collaboration between the AOP and OT, can be ordered through its sponsor, Alcon. Members can request additional copies via their local Alcon business development manager, or by email.

The supplement comprises of six features which aim to enhance the public’s understanding of the importance of children’s eye health.

It contains a case study with a family taking their child for a sight test and an optometrist explaining what her day-to-day job involves. AOP experts, Henry Leonard and Farah Topia, also address and debunk common misconceptions around children’s vision.

The supplement was released to coincide with the AOP’s latest media campaign, A B See, which highlights the importance of children’s eye health.

The campaign received 112 national and regional broadcast hits and reached 40 million people, the AOP confirmed. It was picked up across national and local media, including BBC, ITV, Mail Online, Huffington Post, Yahoo! and Netmums.

The AOP has released a campaign pack of downloadable assets that can be used in practice, including a patient leaflet on eye health, an animal eye facts worksheet and website banners.

OT has also produced the below patient-friendly video for practices to use, which explores five simple tips that parents can follow for protecting their child’s eyes.
