Let's get this party started

Exciting plans are already afoot to make two highlights of the optical calendar even better next year

AOP Awards 2015

Practitioners and optical companies may be enjoying a breather now that the main UK optical show season is over, but modern optics never sleeps – nor should it.

The AOP has announced the expansion of its annual AOP Awards ceremony to run alongside 100% Optical next February.

The exciting move brings together the two successful events under one roof in London and follows a record attendance of more than 7000 professionals at this year’s 100% Optical (6–8 February, London ExCeL).

The decision to align the AOP Awards at 100% Optical will enable the Association to showcase excellence in the profession on a larger scale, with increased benefits for AOP members, Awards guests and show delegates.

The AOP Awards initiative celebrates the extraordinary achievements of individuals and organisations in optics and has grown in popularity since its launch in 2011.

The news that the two events are teaming up will surely be welcomed by the 167 exhibitors who supported 100% Optical this year, as it illustrates that their faith in the London show was justified.

With five themed education streams, more than 100 education sessions and over 4300 CET points attained, it is no surprise that attendance at this year’s 100% Optical was 20% up on last year’s event. The crowds on the AOP stand for the peer review sessions were particularly a testimony to the show’s increasing popularity.

Optics is a people profession and practitioners love to party, a fact which surprised me when I was new to OT and optics nearly 16 years ago. Seeing AOP members and practitioners take much-needed time out to celebrate at the various conferences and events I attend over the course of a year is still a highlight for me to this day.

The Association is now a hive of activity reviewing plans for the expansion of the AOP Awards at 100% Optical, with further announcements to follow over the coming months.

The winners of the AOP Awards will be announced on Sunday 5 February 2017, in the Capital Suite at ExCeL London, giving ceremony guests the opportunity to experience the buzzing show on both the Sunday and Monday. Make a note in your calendar now – this is one party you won’t want to miss out on.

The AOP Awards celebrate the talent and hard work in the profession and nominations are very welcome via the AOP website.
