Webinar: OCT in optometric practice: the story so far and the potential future impact

OCT in the field optometry has revolutionised eye care and significantly impacted the way optometrists diagnose and manage various ocular conditions. Its ability to detect subtle changes in the eye's structures has led to earlier interventions, improved patient outcomes and reduced the burden on secondary eye care services.

Additionally, OCT has also played a crucial role in enhancing patient education, as it allows optometrists to visually communicate diagnoses and treatment plans more effectively. Despite the numerous advantages, the implementation of OCT in optometry practice has presented challenges related to cost, training and the need for ongoing technological advancements. Nevertheless, its widespread adoption has resulted in a paradigm shift in UK optometry, promoting better eye health management and ultimately leading to improved patient care.

This webinar will explore the impact of OCT on our day-to-day practice and consider some of the ways this technology might impact the future role of optometry in the delivery of eye care.

Learning outcomes

  • Practitioners will recognise the role of OCT in enhancing patient education
  • Practitioners will identify how OCT has changed the clinical management of patients and recognise the impact of its role in the future
