This event offers a full day of education delivered by experts from around the world offering key insights on the evidence-based management of myopia in clinical practice.

Session two: Repeated low-level red light therapy – shining the light on myopia

Repeated low-level red-light therapy has been proposed as a new method to control myopia progression. It is delivered by an at-home desktop device, emitting red light through a semiconductor laser diode, under parental supervision. This webinar will present the most up-to-date information on the treatment, evidence on clinical efficacy and safety, as well as possible mechanism of the therapy.

Professor Mingguang He

Ming GuangProfessor Mingguang He is professor of ophthalmic epidemiology at the University of Melbourne. He undertook his medical training in China and holds a master’s in public health from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and a PhD in ophthalmology from Moorfields Eye Hospital.

Professor He is a global expert in vision-related clinical and epidemiologic research. He has led a series of important epidemiological studies and clinical trials, including the first population-based study on myopia in China, the first population-based study on glaucoma in China, a clinical trial to prove the efficacy of increased outdoor time on myopia prevention and a prophylactic clinical trial on angle closure glaucoma published in the Lancet 2019. His publications have attracted more than 13K citations.

He has received over $10m in major research grants in Australia, including the prestigious NHMRC investigator grant and Medical Research Future Fund for his research on artificial intelligence.

He founded and served as the first president of the Asia Pacific Tele-Ophthalmology Society and is a founding council member of Asia Pacific Myopia Society and deputy secretary-general for Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology.
