The Hospital Optometrists Annual Conference offers a series of webinars open to those working within secondary care as well as practitioners based in primary care and other settings.

The programme will deliver a diverse range of clinical content and delegates are invited to attend all of the sessions or choose individual activities based upon their clinical interests.

In addition to the webinars, there will be general and specialty peer reviews which are reserved for hospital optometrists only.

General peer review for hospital optometrists

Peer review is a great way to share ideas and reflect on different approaches. You will be presented with cases to discuss in small groups with your peers. Delegates will benefit from:

  • Cases specifically designed for optometrists working in a secondary care setting
  • Hearing different approaches to managing clinical situations from their peers
  • Recognising the importance of reflection on current and future practice

CPD

  • This session is approved for 3 interactive CPD points and by attending you will be fulfilling the GOC’s peer review requirement for general optometrists
  • To be eligible for the CPD points you need to attend for the duration of the session and be able to participate in interactive polls
  • You will not be eligible for the CPD points if you join using audio only

Alison Weston

Alison Weston, speakerAlison Weston is deputy head of optometry at St James’s University Hospital Leeds and works with a team of 18 optometrists / dispensing opticians. Clinical areas of interest include contact lenses, glaucoma, uveitis and anterior segment.

Alison has been a pre-registration supervisor and College of Optometrists examiner for many years. She has been a member of the CFA IP panel and is currently part of the CMG review group.

Deirdre Burns

Deirdre Burns, speakerDeirdre Burns has 20 years’ experience as an optometrist in Belfast Health and Social Care Trust. She is an independent prescriber and current works in eye casualty as well as corneal, glaucoma and contact lens clinics. She has a particular interest in corneal disease, medical contact lens fitting, therapeutic bandage contact lenses and in using confocal microscopy as a diagnostic tool. She has also been a part-time tutor for the University of Ulster postgraduate diploma in independent prescribing for the past six years.
